STATEMENT
Tyler Sorgman is interested in exploring how the landscape can act as a symbol for the psychological. Sorgman’s recent work includes otherworldly imagery of plant growth, mountain ranges, storms, and forest fires. The scenes Sorgman creates are deceptively sweet at first glance. They are meant to feel both playful yet perilous; dreamy yet uneasy.
A solitary home is often set into these imagined spaces. It is unclear whether these homes and their inhabitants are blissfully secluded, or existing in isolation. Sometimes they even appear trapped in a crater, or surrounded by rings of fire. Through this work, Sorgman explores the duality of growth and destruction, and how one cannot exist without the other.
